| The Zworks Filtered Meta-Search Engine takes your query, formats it for each of the search engines used (Yahoo!, Infoseek, Excite, Fast Search, Google, Lycos, Alta Vista, HotBot, Direct Hit Open Directory, Webcrawler and Northern Light) and sends it. Returning results are then collated, duplicates removed and ranked according to position returned with the higher rankings going to those sites found on multiple search engines. We trust multiple engines more than any single engine in determining relevancy to your search. We do not search engines which allow "paid positioning" in search results. These paid sites do not have to meet the same criteria for high listings as the other sites so the integrity of the results could be compromised. We could just edit these sites out but that would be unfair to the advertisers who would still be charged each time the engine was searched.
In removing duplicates, sites such as "http://www.site.com", "http://site.com", "http://site.com/", "http://www.site.com/", "http://www.site.com/index.html" and "http://www.site.com/default.asp" become one listing, not two, three or six!. These feautures, along with our Power Search for more advanced queries, allow us to bring higher relevancy results to your search. Individual engines may be searched (except Northern Light) allowing both the removal of duplicates (and there are duplicates) and the filtration of results. |
| We are pulling results from the major search engines. We have no control of what sites are indexed. The results we offer are only what they return in response to your query so the only information we have to filter is the name, description and URL of a site. This information is passed through a filter which removes sites with obvious vulgarities (common "four letter" words) and then subjects the title and description of the remaining results to a filtration by word combinations and sequences which are common to adult and hate sites. Since we are filtering the site name, description and URL and not the actual site, this is not a totally "Child-Safe" filtration process. These procedures do not remove all sites of questionable content but definitely "clean up" the screen containing your search results by eliminating most surprises when searching for content which you thought unrelated to these areas. You don't have to worry about your children being close while performing a search because of the language they might see. The filter may be disabled for individual searches on the Power Search page. |
